Using The Web-Log…

Using my web-log outside of class, when this class is over could probably fall into two categories. If I continue to use it, or if I dont use it.

If I were to use it for my own personal use it would be mainly to voice my opinion. Whether i have a strong opinion or a simple idea I can post it and see what kind of responses i might get

When using it for school it might be helpful in if my prfessor has one, or even such as this class has one we could ask each other questions. Help one another to figure things our.

I dont know if I will of will not keep this web log it depends on how useful I find it to be next quarter.

The Changes…

Over this quarter at Ohio State i have learned many different things which have changed my attitude and opinions about different things. The main thing that changed was my attitude, the attitude I have toward college and the time and practice put into my school work. I thought high school was a breeze and i guess I though yes, college would be harder. And in some ways i have learned what is harder in college (this class) taught me a lot when I saw some of the grades I got. What effected my grade was three main assignments, our research paper, op-ed, and web-log. I didnt find much trouble with the op-ed or web-log, but with the research paper I did. I hadnt had a research paper assigned to me in high school it was new ground that I didnt take serious. I learned that lesson

In being in this class my opinions had changed too. They changed mainly dealing with the same things that caused my attitude change, college is different from high school depending on many different factors so you should prepare for a new begining.

Op-Ed Rough Take A Look :)

The current economy is terrible and going down in our country. Are we heading in the direction of another depression? No we are not and there are many reasons why. The government is doing some things right I think, but other things not so good. Starting with our bailout plan. The government wants to give almost all the 700 billion dollars to insurance companies that are failing, isn’t that sad. Too bad the CEO’s of these companies meet at resorts and take their private flights to get there, ironic I think a little. But I guess we can think at least the government is doing something. Though why not put some of that money toward the big three? The big three of GM, Ford, and Chrysler who have been slowing going under profit over the last four years. I guess it’s not the governments job to help them even though that will effect how much of our workforce in the country? My grandpa included has almost all of his retirement in GM, he worked there for forty some years before retiring. But again why worry about the working Americans who had that money in order to be able to provide for themselves and their families for the rest of their lives. But I guess despite where I think the money should go, at least it’s going somewhere. Yes in a way this is a good thing, it helps lead away from a depression, so we shouldn’t worry about the big insurance companies, they wont go under.

Your still wondering if it’s a sure thing we aren’t going into a depression? Well there are plenty of other reasons to mention. Another reasons we are not going into a depression our economy is too strong now than before. Last time we had a depression our government and federal Reserve put in new warning signs and blockades for if we neared a depression again. All these helpful hints are what is helping us now. The government did something else right. When they completely screwed us before they felt some remorse to try to keep it from happening again, how great.

Well for those who are still worried, I’m not saying that a recession is not in the making. A recession though is better than depression some people are going to be effected by what is happening in many ways. A recession though is all part of a cycle in which an economy goes through every so many years, or decades. Basically when things are bad they will get better and when things are great they will probably get bad, common sense really if you think about it. Things can’t always be good, or bad some things are constantly changing without our control.

The Rules When Writing an Op-Ed

There are some unwritten rules when it comes to you writing an op-ed. You may not go by all of them but, they are all very helpful when wanting to write one well.

One unwritten rule is when you write the article, make sure that what you are writing about is relevent to what is happening now. Don’t write about something that happen even one month ago if it’s not effecting anything or anyone now.

Another “rule” so to speak is making your article persuasive, or argumentive. These editorials are opinions, you want to persuade people to agree with your opinion it’s basically the point of writing an op-ed. Sometimes the op-ed might cause arguments, but not everyone will have your same opinion so that is why.

I found an Op-Ed today that i thought was very amusing talking about Obama being elected president. I have nothing agaisnt him, though I am a conservative, this editorial made it sound like the woman writing it was infatuated with him. The entire article spoke nothing of what he plans to do in office or of very many of his accomplishments relevent to our country. All this women could talk about was basically how Obama was a god of some sort, her to save us and our country. Everyone should love him how could they not? The main point this author was trying to get across…umm that Obama is the best thing since indoor plumbing. This op-ed was a true op-ed nothing but very strong opinions, in hope of persuading everyone to lay back and relax the savior of our country has come…

Acadenic and Popular Audiences

Popular Audience

The popular audience is going to have a lot less knowlegde of a topic than what the academic audience would.
The popular audience is what an everday person will know about a topic.
They might not allways feel that credible sources are needed when finding information.

Acedmic Audience

The academic audience is very differnt from a populare audience. The academic audience consist of those people who know more about the topic than an everyday person may know.
The academic audience would also research and learn from a reliable source, and only a reliable source.
They like to know more than the average audience, they want to be specific about the topic.

Spaces and Places

I chose to research recently our economy in the U. S. now and compare it to the economy before the Great Depression. I chose this because i wanted to learn whether I, or anyone else could be trouble. And if we are in trouble how much.

I researched through many databases and google, I found most of my information from news type websites and magazines. Magazines such as newsweek, U. S. World Report, and others. The main website i follwed was CNN, because of their role in reporting what is happening now it was the most up to date information.

I found that i was able to mostly answer my question, though it can not be 100 percent, i found the general sceme of things.

Through watching and researching the news i found similarites and differences between our past depression and our current economic problems. The simialrites which were scary, thankfully are in the process of the government fixing now, in hope of preventing past problems. I also found that there were many different things about of economy now as well. All in all after researching our past with our present i learned that i shouldnt be as afriad as people are reacting. There are a lot of differences from our past, and the government is trying to help unlike before. I dont think that we have to worry about another depression based on what i researched. Maybe a recession but not a depression.
